2.58% of Eleksyon 2025 local candidates running unopposed


Over 2% of candidates vying for local positions in Eleksyon 2025 are running unopposed.

According to data from GMA Integrated News Research, 1,068 candidates for local positions are unchallenged. This accounts for 2.58% of the total 41,342 candidates in the local elections.

Among them, 51 candidates for district representative seats are running unopposed, making up 20.08% of all congressional candidates.

Eight of these candidates are in Central Luzon, another eight are in Calabarzon, while Cagayan Valley and Caraga each have five.

Additionally, nine candidates for governor and 13 for vice governor are running unopposed.

The same is true for at least 72 provincial board candidates across 16 provinces, along with 288 mayoral candidates and 324 vice mayoral candidates.

For municipal and city councils, 311 candidates for councilor positions are unopposed across 34 municipalities, three cities, and two city districts.

Notably, 32 local government units nationwide have all their candidates—from mayor to councilor—running unopposed. These include Tagaytay City and 31 municipalities.

Of these 32 LGUs, seven are in BARMM and Northern Mindanao; three in Zamboanga Peninsula; two each in CAR, Eastern Visayas, SOCCSKSARGEN, and Caraga; and one each in Regions 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, and 11. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
