Gov’t expands Kadiwa program, sells P33 per kilo rice to NHA sites
The government will set up Kadiwa stores and sell P33 per kilo of rice in housing sites of the National Housing Authority (NHA) starting this month, general manager Joeben Tai said Monday.
In a media forum, Tai said the Kadiwa stores will have simultaneous openings from April to May 2025.
It will be opened in Central Luzon and Region IV, particularly in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan; Laguna; Naic and Bacoor Cavite; and municipalities in Rizal.
The Kadiwa ng Pangulo program provides Filipinos access to affordable rice and other agricultural commodities, such as vegetables, meat, and fish.
NHA and the Department of Agriculture (DA) formalized the program with a memorandum of agreement signed last March.
They will also sell P33 per kilo of rice in housing sites, where each family beneficiary can buy from three to 50 kilos (one sack).
According to Tai, the rice program aims to cater to 1.2 million housing beneficiaries.
He said the procurement is ongoing, but there is an initial allocation of 80,000 sacks of rice.
“Hopefully, this week or next week ma deliver na sa amin housing sites yung mga bigas (hopefully, rice will be delivered to the housing sites this week or next week),” he said.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
