LTFRB grants special permits to over 1,000 buses for Holy Week exodus

With the expected influx of travelers for the yearly Holy Week exodus, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said Wednesday it has granted special permits to more than 1,000 buses.

In a statement, LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III said the agency has issued a total of 1,018 special permits as of April 8, 2025.

The issuance of special permits was meant to augment the supply of provincial buses during the peak travel period.

The LTFRB chief said the special permits are valid from April 11 to 27, covering the Holy Week and the days immediately after.

The public land transport regulator has also begun the conduct of random inspections of public utility vehicles (PUVs) and transport terminals, checking the validity of operators’ documents, including permits, fare matrices, vehicle markings, and safety accessories.

Guadiz said inspections started on April 7 and will continue throughout the travel rush.

The LTFRB chief added that the agency will also monitor private terminals starting April 11 to ensure the presence of help desks and sufficient personnel to assist passengers.

Aside from enforcement efforts, Guadiz warned the public against using unregistered vehicles, which pose safety risks.

He also reminded passengers to continue practicing basic health precautions during their trips, even if face masks are no longer required.

He urged travelers to carry hygiene kits, alcohol, and face masks for their protection, especially in crowded areas.

The LTFRB said the public may report any complaints through its 24/7 hotline at 1342, its official Facebook page, or via email at complaints@ltfrb.gov.ph. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
