PH, Morocco mark 50 years of diplomatic ties
The Philippines and Morocco on Thursday celebrated their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
The two countries formally established diplomatic ties on April 10, 1975.
According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Morocco’s King Mohammed VI exchanged letters as the two countries commemorated the anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
In his letter, Marcos said the milestone is an opportunity for both countries to reflect on their achievements and open opportunities for future cooperation.
Meanwhile, King Mohammed VI stressed the long-standing relationship between the two countries.
“The past five decades of Morocco-Philippines relations stand out as a model of bilateral ties rooted in mutual esteem and fruitful cooperation,” King Mohammed VI.
In a separate statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs unveiled commemorative stamps to mark the 50th year of Morocco-Philippines relations.
The stamps feature the Marrackech-Menara International Airport and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
As part of the bilateral relations, Morocco opened its embassy in Manila in January 2017, while the Philippines reopened its embassy in Rabat on December 27, 2019.
PCO said that there are around 4,600 Filipinos in Morocco. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
