NSA Año, US counterpart Mike Waltz discuss WPS situation

National Security Adviser Eduardo Año and his US counterpart Mike Waltz had an introductory call and discussed progress in the alliance between Manila and Washington.

In a statement released on Saturday, the NSC said that Año and Waltz "exchanged views on the regional security situation, particularly in the South China Sea/West Philippine Sea, and future bilateral activities to further accelerate the progress in the alliance."

The NSC also said the future bilateral activities discussed by the two officials aimed to increase the progress in the alliance.

"NSA Año and NSA Waltz agreed to continue their discussion to include close coordination at the working level," it added.

Año commended Waltz for assurances of the United States’ ironclad commitment to the Philippines.

The US has been the Philippines’ longtime ally, especially in maintaining stability in the Indo-Pacific region. Both countries have been vocal against China's aggression in the South China Sea. —Jamil Santos/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
