More BI personnel deployed at NAIA for Holy Week exodus

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has deployed an additional 48 personnel to the  Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) amid the expected influx of passengers for the Holy Week.

"We have fielded a total of 48 immigration frontliners at NAIA alone to ensure that all immigration counters are fully manned during peak arrival and departure hours,” said Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado in a statement.

“This is part of our commitment to deliver swift and seamless service to the traveling public,” he said.

According to Viado, the BI employees were from different offices in Metro Manila and were directed to assist in airport operations for the duration of the long weekend. They are also required to render rotational airport duties.

“Our frontliners are under strict orders to provide efficient, courteous, and professional service at all times. This operational surge is aligned with the President’s call for improved government services, especially in high-traffic areas such as our airports,” he added.

Travelers are advised to arrive early at the airport to avoid inconvenience.

“We urge the public to be at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled flight to allow ample time for immigration and security checks,” said Viado.

The Holy Week this year will last until April 19, Black Saturday, and will be succeeded by Easter Sunday on April 20, when the Catholic faithful celebrate Jesus' resurrection.

Under Proclamation 727 earlier issued by Malacañang, April 17 (Maundy Thursday) and April 18 (Good Friday) are regular holidays, while April 19 (Black Saturday) is a special non-working day. — Sundy Locus/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
