PCG, JICA ink records of discussion on capability enhancement for 2025
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed the Records of Discussion (R/D) on the strengthening of capabilities of the uniformed service.
In a statement on Thursday evening, the PCG said its chief Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan and JICA chief representative Baba Takashi signed the R/D at its national headquarters in Port Area, Manila on Tuesday.
The PCG said the R/D is for the technical cooperation project for strengthening the capability of the PCG through Capacity Building Program for Fiscal Year 2025.
Titled “Enhancement of Maritime Safety and Security Capability of the PCG,” the project is expected to be implemented this year which covers expert dispatch, training programs, and knowledge transfer from Japanese maritime professionals.
The PCG pointed out that these improvements are important to enhance the effectiveness and responsiveness of the uniformed service in securing the country’s maritime domain.
Also, the PCG said this effort also reaffirmed JICA’s role as a steadfast development partner of the country in its mission to ensure maritime safety, security, and environmental protection across the archipelago.
“As we have always been for the past decades, rest assured that we are always together with you, every step of the way, to comprehensively strengthen the PCG,” Takashi said.
Gavan thanked the Japanese government for its continued support in enhancing the capabilities of the PCG. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
