Holy Week observed in various ways in PH
Holy Week was observed in various ways in different parts of the country as Catholics remembered the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
According to the ''24 Oras'' report of GMA Regional TV’s CJ Torrida on Friday, the tradition of pabasa, or the chanting of the Pasyon, or the narrative of Jesus Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection, is still alive in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, and in Casiguran, Aurora.
There were devotees in Casiguran who were climbing up the stairs on their knees going to a chapel to show their gratitude for their answered prayers.
Senakulo, or the re-enactment of Jesus Christ’s suffering leading to his death, returned after seven years in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija. Young Catholics took part in the reenactment.
Meanwhile, a group of cyclists visited churches in Laoag with their bicycles.
Almost 2,000 devotees joined the Stations of the Cross in Bangan Hill National Park in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. Similar activities were held at Zion Pilgrimage Mountain in Bugallon, Pangasinan, and the Shrine of the Holy Infant Jesus of Prague in Davao City.
An overnight vigil was held in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, as devotees had already set up their tents since Maundy Thursday.
A procession and washing of the feet was participated in by devotees in Calvary Hills in Iguig, Cagayan.
Further, over 5.1 million devotees walked their way to Antipolo Cathedral.
