Vendors Party-list on DQ case: Baseless, malicious

Vendors Party-list denounced Sunday the disqualification case filed against it by poll watchdog Kontra Daya, saying that the move is “baseless and malicious”.

In a statement, Vendors Party-list maintained their nominees are advocates of elevating the standard of living of Filipino vendors.

Citing Supreme Court decisions, Vendors Party-list said party-list nominees may be members of the marginalized sector they want to represent or have a clear track record of their advocacy of the sectoral group they are representing.

(For us, not providing the correct information about Supreme Court decisions is a form of cheating. The continued dissemination of false information and filing of baseless complaints demonstrates malicious intent.)

On April 15, Kontra Daya filed a case against the Vendors Party-list because its nominees allegedly "do not represent the marginalized sector."

In its 33-page complaint, Kontra Daya said first three nominees Malou Lipana, Florencio Pesigan, and Sheryl Sandil do not represent the marginalized sector and have no bona fide intention to represent them.

(We respect the right to free expression and to file a lawsuit, but we hope that what is being said is fair and true, because no right is absolute.) —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
