LP backs ex-COA commissioner Mendoza's Senate bid
The Liberal Party (LP) has endorsed the Senate bid of former Commission on Audit commissioner Heidi Mendoza in the upcoming May 12 elections.
The LP, in a statement, said Mendoza is part of its Trio Tapat sa Senado (Three Senate bets with Integrity) alongside LP chairperson and former senator Kiko Pangilinan as well as former LP member Bam Aquino.
"Hindi po pormal na kabahagi ng LP si Heidi, pero kinikilala namin siya bilang kakampi at katuwang sa laban para sa mas tapat at maayos na pamamahala,” LP vice chairperson and former Quezon City representative Kit Belmonte said.
(Heidi is not formally part of the LP, but we see her as an ally in our fight for good governance.)
“I'll be voting for her, and LP members are really rooting for her,” Belmonte added.
Mendoza is an advocate of good governance and accountability.
Former Vice President Leni Robredo has also stated that she will vote for Mendoza for the 2025 polls when asked by a supported on Facebook, but Robredo has only been joining the campaign stage to pitch for Pangilinan and Aquino, who both served as her running mate and campaign manager during her 2022 presidential bid, respectively.
In a separate statement, Pangilinan called on the voters to vote for candidates who will work for the common good instead of being an absentee.
“20 days to go. 'Wag po natin piliin ‘yung nakakadagdag sa gulo, 'yung may isyu ng katiwalian, 'yung mga walang gagawin doon kundi butasin lang ang silya sa Senado dahil sila ay sikat o dahil sila ay kilala,” Pangilinan said in a radio interview during his Olongapo City campaign stop on Monday, April 21.
(Let us not fall for those who sow division, those who are linked with corrupt practices, those who will do nothing because they won the Senate seat due to their popularity.)
“Doon po tayo sa tapat at totoo. Doon po tayo sa may solusyon,” Pangilinan added
(Let us go for those who are sincere and will serve with integrity, and those who will provide solutions.)
Pangilinan, a former food security czar during the administration of former President Benigno Aquino III, vowed to push for a law that will providing free breakfast to all school children until Grade 12 and mandate government agencies to buy produce of local farmers for the provision of the said free breakfast for school children. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
