Marcos, First Lady visit wake of Nora Aunor
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday visited the wake of National Artist for Film and Broadcast Nora Aunor.
Marcos went there with First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos.
Nora, widely regarded as the Superstar, died of acute respiratory failure on April 16. She was 71.
Nora's wake was held at Heritage Park in Taguig. Her interment is scheduled for April 22.
Marcos earlier acknowledged Nora’s contribution to the national heritage through her films.
In a statement, Senator Imee Marcos honored Nora Aunor and her 1982 film “Himala” as she sent her condolences to the Superstar’s loved ones.
“Hindi totoo na walang himala, 'pagkat siya ay isang himala. Hanggang ngayon himala pa rin sa ating lahat,” the senator said.
(It's not true that there are no miracles, 'cause she was a miracle. She's still a miracle to all of us today.)
Meanwhile, Senator Bong Revilla filed Senate Resolution No. 1339 to express the Senate’s condolences on the death of the National Artist for film and to recognize her contributions to Philippine cinema and culture.
“Si Ate Guy ay isang inspirasyon, hindi lamang sa aming mga kapwa artista kundi sa bawat Pilipinong nangangarap at nagsusumikap. Sa loob ng maraming dekada, siya ang naging tinig, mukha, at damdamin ng sambayanang Pilipino,” Revillame said.
(Ate Guy is an inspiration, not only to our fellow artists but to every Filipino who dreams and strives. For decades, he has been the voice, face, and emotion of the Filipino people.) —Anna Felicia Bajo with a report from Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF/RF, GMA Integrated News
