NBI files complaint vs. 4 vloggers over fake news

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday filed a complaint against four vloggers at the Department of Justice (DOJ) for "manipulating video interviews of government officials."

(They are spreading videos and— using social media platforms where they splice interviews and footage of our government officials and alter the context.)

Macorol said they filed a complaint for unlawful use of publication, violation of the Anti-Alias Law, and for inciting to sedition.

He said that the vloggers manipulated a video of NBI Director Jaime Santiago where he said that authorities will file complaints against overseas Filipino workers who are spreading fake news.

(They spliced this video. They changed the context and added captions saying that an OFW was supposedly going to be arrested. They’re spreading the message that OFWs should stop sending remittances to their loved ones here in the country.)

He declined to name the vloggers but said that they are from Saudi Arabia, Canada, and New Zealand while one was from the United Kingdom who is currently on vacation in Bohol.

Macorol also said that they may file more complaints against other vloggers. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
