Retired justice charged with gross misconduct amid murder allegations

BAGUIO CITY — The Supreme Court (SC) has charged a retired justice with gross misconduct amid the murder allegations against him, High Court spokesperson Atty. Camille Ting announced Wednesday.

Ting said the SC formally charged retired Court of Appeals Associate Justice Isaias Dicdican for his alleged involvement in the murder of Atty. Joey Luis Wee.

According to Ting, Wee was shot and killed in Cebu City in November 2020 on the ground floor of the building where his law office was located.

The SC directed Dicdican to file an answer within a non-extendable period of 10 days from notice.

“It’s an admin case, so— he’s still a member of the Bar, so the ultimate penalty would be disbarment,” Ting said in a press briefing.

She said that if found guilty, Dicdican will also not be able to receive his pension.

“Another penalty for retired CA Justice Dicdican would possibly be the— he won’t be able to receive his pension anymore if he is found guilty,” she said.

In his extrajudicial confession, one of the accused in the case named Dicdican as one of the alleged masterminds behind the killing.

He said Dicdican, with a certain Miss Riza, offered P1 million for the killing.

The accused said Riza allegedly holds a grudge against Wee over a case and is liable to pay a huge amount of money in favor of Wee’s clients after losing. He said Riza was also allegedly bullied by Wee in and out of court. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
