671 drivers suspended over road crashes, positive drug test results —LTO
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended 671 drivers' licenses for getting involved in road crashes and testing positive for illegal drugs.
“This is unprecedented on the part of the LTO, 671 ang na-suspend na driver's licenses as of today,” LTO chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said in a press conference on Wednesday.
Of the total number, Mendoza said 547 of the suspended driver’s licenses were due to road crashes that resulted in slight physical injuries to deaths. Meanwhile, 97 were suspended due to positive drug test results.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the 90-day suspension of driver’s licenses could lead to revocation after the investigation.
Involved bus companies in incidents will also be issued show cause orders.
Also, show cause orders have been issued to the owners of 1,165 vehicles that failed the roadworthiness inspections of the agency.
Mendoza said the LTO will continue to address the issue of illegal drug use among drivers and roadworthiness of vehicles. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
