DOTr forms task force to review road safety policies

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced Wednesday the creation of a special task force that will review policies and procedures on road safety with the goal of implementing possible reforms.

"Effective today, I am announcing the creation of a special task force to do a sweeping review of all our road safety policies and procedures," DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said in a press conference.

The special task force is composed of personnel from the DOTr, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and Land Transportation Office (LTO).

"Itong road safety kailangan sineseryoso natin ito lalo na 'yung mga malalaking sasakyan, mga bus at trucks. 'Yan po ang mga nakakamatay. Wala kang kalaban-laban," Dizon said.

(We need to take road safety seriously, especially with large vehicles, like buses and trucks. Those are the ones that can kill. You are defenseless.)

"Masyado nang maraming nagiging insidente. Clearly, 'yung mga polisiya ngayon, 'yung mga proseso ngayon, hindi epektibo," he added.

(There are too many incidents. Clearly, the current policies and processes are not effective.)

The review will cover the possible crackdown on unroadworthy vehicles and qualifications of bus and truck drivers, among others, Dizon said. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
