OCD: PH under 'blue alert' from May 11 to 14, 2025
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Friday urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperative ahead of the May 12 midterm elections.
According to the OCD, the "blue alert" will be raised by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center (NDRRMOC) from May 11 to 14 to ensure smooth coordination of all relevant agencies throughout the critical period.
During this period, officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard, and Philippine National Police (PNP) will be on duty at the NDRRMC to respond to issues and requests from regional disaster councils and partner agencies, while OCD regional offices and disaster management centers will intensify their efforts on monitoring election-related incidents and work with the authorities.
“The role of the OCD is crucial in promoting a culture of preparedness and resilience… We’re calling on everyone—candidates, voters, and stakeholders—to cooperate with authorities and stay alert during this time. A peaceful and safe election depends on our collective effort,” said OCD administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno.
“Our commitment is to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies. We will work closely with all partner agencies to keep order and ensure safety as we go through this busy period,” he added.
The PNP is currently monitoring a total of 362 election hotspots, down from 941 in 2019 and 844 in 2022. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
