Sara Duterte slams Marcos' Bagong Pilipinas: May nagbago ba?

Vice President Sara Duterte once again criticized the Marcos administration for using the slogan “Bagong Pilipinas” (New Philippines), believing that nothing has changed in the country under the leadership of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Duterte, who was in Manila’s 6th District in Santa Ana on Saturday night to back the mayoral comeback of Isko Moreno, told the crowd to vote for PDP Laban candidates to see “real changes.”

“Ang kailangan nating gawin, ituloy ang nasimulan ni Pangulong Duterte at ituloy ang tunay na pagbabago. Hindi ‘yung sinasabi ngayon na may Bagong Pilipinas pero may nagbago ba sa bayan natin?” Duterte asked the audience.

(What we need to do is continue what President Duterte has started and pursue real changes. Unlike what the administration is saying that there’s Bagong Pilipinas, but has anything really changed in our country?)

“Paulit-ulit lang. Maraming rason, paulit-ulit lang ang kahirapan, paulit-ulit lang din ang pangako. Wala namang nagbago. Lalo pang nagugutom ang mga tao, lalo pang dumadami ang naghihirap,” she added.

(It’s just the same. They have many reasons, but poverty is still here, and they just continue making empty promises. Nothing has changed. People are getting more hungry, and more people are suffering now.)

GMA News Online asked Malacañang for comment on the matter, and will update this story once it responds.

Benny Abante

During the same event, the Vice President also mocked Manila 6th District Representative Bienvenido "Benny" Abante in his very own district, by flashing a photo of the latter on stage with his tongue out.

“Anong tawag sa ganitong tao, mga anak? Walang [respeto]. Klaro ‘yan ha. At kanino siya walang respeto? Sa inyo. Sa inyo siya walang respeto. ‘Bleh, ako nakaupo, kayo nagugutom,’” Duterte said.

(What do you call this person? Someone who doesn’t have respect. It’s clear. He doesn’t have respect for you. He’s saying, ‘I’m the incumbent congressman. You’re getting hungry.’)

Abante was one of the congressmen who led the House Quad Committee (QuadComm), which investigated the crimes linked to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), drug war deaths, and illegal drug trade in the country.

GMA News Online contacted Abante's office but has yet to receive a reply as of posting time. —with a report from Llanesca T. Panti/KG, GMA Integrated News
