Lakas-CMD asks NBI to probe 'Oplan Horus' hoax

Ruling party Lakas-CMD has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the people behind what it called the "Oplan Horus" hoax. 

"Lakas-CMD has formally asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a full and exhaustive probe into the source and distribution network of a fabricated document labeled “Oplan Horus,"” the party said in a statement released on Thursday.

"Oplan Horus" documents contain the alleged plan to "bring down the Duterte family." 

"The manufactured document, labeled Oplan Horus, falsely attributes authorship to House Majority Leader Rep. Manuel Jose “Mannix” M. Dalipe and bears his forged signature," said Lakas-CMD.

Lakas-CMD Executive Director Anna Capella Velasco described the document as “malicious and falsified."

“It has caused significant reputational damage not only to the Office of the Majority Leader, but also to the House of Representatives and the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats,” said Velasco.

Lakas-CMD believes that the incident constitutes identity fraud, cyber libel, and possible violations under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

“In light of this, we respectfully request… a full investigation to identify the individuals or groups responsible for the creation and distribution of the fabricated ‘Oplan Horus’ document,” added Lakas-CMD.

The party also requested that the NBI determine how the forged document was published in a major news outlet and disseminated on social media platforms.

“We stand ready to submit all available evidence to support the investigation. We urge the NBI to treat this matter with the utmost urgency because it involves the identity of a high-ranking public official and  the credibility of our democratic institutions ahead of the 2025 midterm elections,” the party added. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
