Jayvee Hinlo emphasizes need for more jobs instead of 'ayuda'

SAN JOSE DEL MONTE, Bulacan —- PDP Laban senatorial candidate Atty. Jayvee Hinlo said the government should be creating more jobs for Filipinos to address poverty, instead of distributing cash assistance or ayuda.

“Ang kailangan ng Pilipinas ay trabaho. Ang kailangan ng Pilipinas ang gobyerno na dapat paramihin ang trabaho,” Hinlo said in a campaign sortie in Bulacan province Wednesday.

(What the Philippines needs is work. What the country needs is a government that can provide more jobs.)

Without dropping names, the Visayan lawyer called on supporters to veer from electing again politicians who merely provide ayuda and make beneficiaries dependent on it instead of working their way out of poverty.

“Kailangan po nating palitan ang mga nakasanayan nating politiko. Sila ’yung pabalik-balik sa ating Senado. Sila ‘yung mga pabalik-balik na mga mambabatas pero ang buhay natin hindi nagbago,” Hinlo said.

(We need to replace politicians whom we are used to. They are the ones who keep coming back to the Senate and as legislators, but haven’t done anything to change our lives.)

“Alam ng mga politiko ang solusyon sa problema sa ating bansa pero ayaw nila ibigay ang solusyon. Ayaw nila kayong binigyan ng trabaho. Bakit? Kasi pag kayo'y naka-graduate…sa kahirapan, hindi ninyo na kailangan ang mga politiko. Ayaw nila na umangat ang inyong buhay,” he added.

(These politicians know the solution to the problems in our country, but they don't want to give it away. They don't want to give you jobs. Why? Because when you get out of poverty, you won’t need politicians anymore. They don't want your life to improve.)

Fifty-five percent, or more than half of Filipino families, considered themselves poor, according to results of a survey by Stratbase and Social Weather Stations (SWS) for the first quarter of 2025.

Surveys conducted in January this year also revealed that a great majority of Filipinos feel that the government’s social welfare programs are helpful to poor citizens.

These programs include the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD), Ayuda sa Kapos and Kita Program (AKAP), Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS), and Walang Gutom Program (WGP), formerly known as the Food Stamp Program. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
