VP Sara ‘at peace,' no matter the impeachment trial's outcome
Vice President Sara Duterte said on Friday that she is “at peace” with whatever will be the outcome of her impeachment trial that is tentatively set to start on July 30.
“As I said on the stage earlier, I will not talk about my impeachment because people might think that this is about my interests. I told them that you just leave the impeachment to me and I am at peace, I am at peace whatever the outcome of the impeachment trial will be, whether I may be acquitted or guilty, I already accepted that, the two possibilities,” she told reporters on the sidelines of a campaign event of local candidates in Zamboanga City.
The House of Representatives impeached Vice President Sara Duterte with 215 congressmen endorsing the verified complaint against her last February 5.
Although the Articles of Impeachment were transmitted to the Senate on the same day, Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero adjourned the sessions without tackling the case.
Despite the push from Duterte’s critics to immediately proceed with the trial, Escudero said the Senate cannot start while Congress is in recess.
Should Escudero’s timeline be followed, the Articles of Impeachment will be presented on June 2 or upon the resumption of sessions and the impeachment court will be convened the following day.
Further, Duterte said that his impending impeachment trial is not just about her: “This is about politicians and the administration promising to the people that they will deliver genuine public service.”
