DMW commits to assist OFW who lost his child in NAIA crash
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Monday said it will provide necessary assistance to the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose 5-year-old child was killed after an SUV crashed into the departure area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.
The DMW said it also stands ready to assist the OFW who was supposed to fly for Europe, in terms of explaining his absence from work to his current overseas employer.
Aside from his daughter, the DMW noted that the OFW’s wife and mother also sustained injuries due to the car-ramming incident which happened Sunday morning.
“We likewise fervently pray for the fast recovery of his wife, who was also run over and is hospitalized in critical condition. We also ask for prayers of healing and safety to those affected by this very unfortunate incident, including the mother of the OFW who was also injured but is currently out of harm’s way,” the agency added.
The DMW also called for justice following the incident, which also killed another male adult and wounded several others.
“[T]he Department joins the bereaved OFW and his family in their strong plea to have the perpetrator of this tragedy brought to justice,” it emphasized.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has preventively suspended for 90 days the driver’s license of the motorist behind the accident.
A show cause order has also been issued by the LTO against the registered owner of the vehicle and the driver.
The SUV driver will also be subjected to a drug test, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
The DOTr said the drug test and the review of all CCTV footage of the incident will be part of its full and impartial investigation, along with the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and law enforcement agencies.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
