Palace advises public to be critical, watchful amid upcoming elections
Malacañang on Wednesday advised the public to be critical and watchful amid the upcoming elections, urging them to refrain from engaging with the content of individuals who are spreading fake news.
“Ang pintuan po ng pamahalaan ay hindi naman po hahadlangan ang anumang mga kritisismo hangga’t meron pong basehan,” Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said in a press briefing.
(The doors of the government will not block any criticisms as long as there is a basis.)
“Ang ingatan lang po natin ay ang mga fake news peddlers. Labanan po natin ang mga fake news,” she added.
(Let us just be cautious of the fake news peddlers. Let us fight against fake news.)
Castro also urged the public to refrain from watching content that is critical of the government without basis.
Aside from this, she discouraged “keyboard warriors” spreading fake news from “selling” the country.
“‘Wag niyo po ibenta ang inyong dignidad. ‘Wag ibenta ang bansa sa ibang mga bansa na maaaring may interes dito sa ating teritoryo, sa ating soberenya,” she said.
(Do not sell your dignity. Do not sell the country to other nations that may have interests in our territory, in our sovereignty.)
“Huwag ibenta ang bansa sa pamamagitan ng pagiging keyboard warrior at ang tanging maging trabaho o goal ay gumawa ng fake news,” she said.
(“Do not sell the country by being a keyboard warrior whose only job or goal is to create fake news.”)
