Nancy Binay hits sister’s ‘Abby better’ campaign slogan

Nancy Binay hits sister’s ‘Abby better’ campaign slogan

Outgoing Senator Nancy Binay took a swipe at the campaign slogan of her sister, senatorial candidate and outgoing Makati City Mayor Abby Binay, saying none of the Binay siblings has surpassed the public service of their parents.

Nancy was reacting to the supposed content of Abby's campaign speeches as well as her slogan “Abby Better.”

(Mayor Binay has repeatedly said onstage that she has surpassed the service and benefits our father provided. I want to say no one among us siblings can surpass the service our parents gave. Not me, not even Junjun, and not Mayor Abby—none of them can surpass the service our parents have provided.)

Nancy and Abby’s parents are former Vice President Jejomar Binay and former Makati City mayor Elenita Binay.

The outgoing senator lamented that her father sees the “Abby Better” posters every time he campaigns with her.

(He even notices that your tarpaulin no longer carries the Binay surname here in Makati. Your tarpaulins say ‘Abby Better.’ It’s sad because I can see in our father’s eyes the sadness and confusion about why your surname has changed here in Makati.)

She said that none of the Binay siblings would have been elected to their own positions if Jejomar had not served his constituents well.

Walang Serbisyong Better dito sa Makati, Serbisyong Binay lamang,” she quipped.

(Your last name is Binay; in fact, you are running for senator, the name you carry outside of Makati is Binay, not Better. There is no ‘Serbisyong Better’ here in Makati, only ‘Serbistong Binay’.)

'Hindi tayo kalaban'

Nancy also emphasized that she is not competing against Abby as she is running for Makati City mayor while the latter is running for the Senate.

(We are not opponents. I am the only Binay on the ballot. We also heard that in his speech, she said that his own family is her enemy.)

Nancy, however, is running against Abby's husband, Makati Representative Luis Campos Jr., who is also vying to be mayor of Makati

She then alleged that Abby was treating their parents like enemies.

(I understand if that's how she feels about us, her siblings. But I ask her, please don't treat your parents like enemies. Our parents are no longer young, so don't destroy your relationship with them.)

Lashes out at brother-in-law rival

Nancy also alleged that Campos is the reason for the family estrangement.

“Doon naman sa aking katunggali bilang mayor ng Makati, we tried, we really tried to accept you as our brother-in-law. Pilit mong sinisira ang samahan naming magkakapatid,” Nancy said.

(To my opponent for mayor of Makati, we tried, we really tried to accept you as our brother-in-law. But I can't understand why you are taking away our sibling, Abby. You are deliberately trying to destroy the bond between us siblings.)

(Now you are trying to destroy the service of the Binays here in Makati which was started by my father as mayor of the city in 1986. The misunderstanding among us siblings did not start from politics. It started because of you.)

'Bitter'

The senator reiterated that she is not fighting Abby and she is still hoping to make amends with her sister.

“Hindi kita kaaway. Kahit anong gawin mo, kahit anong gawin natin pareho, magkapatid pa tayo, lagi tayong magiging magkapatid. At sana, at some point, ‘pag ‘di ka na bitter, magka-ayos-ayos din tayo,” she said.

(You are not my enemy. Whatever you do, whatever we do, we are still sisters. We will always be sisters. And hopefully, at some point when you are no longer bitter, we can fix our relationship.)

Nancy added that Abby should remember the lessons imparted by their father.

“Dapat ang serbisyo na ibibigay natin ay Serbisyong Binay, na hindi lang better, dapat the best,” she ended.

(The service we should give should not just be better, but the best.)
