DBM OKs P2,000 hike in teachers, poll workers election allowance

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on Friday said it has approved a P2,000 across the board hike on the compensation of teachers and other poll workers serving in the upcoming May 12 national and local elections.

With the increase, the DBM, in a statement, said the adjusted honoraria rates for those serving in Electoral Boards are as follows:

  • P12,000 from the previous P10,000 for the chairperson
  • P11,000 from the previous P9,000 for the poll clerk
  • P11,000 from the previous P9,000 for the 3rd member
  • P8,000 from the previous P6,000 for the support staff

“As directed by our beloved President [Ferdinand] Bongbong Marcos [Jr.], finally, our teachers and poll workers will receive a P2,000 across the board increase on their compensation for the 2025 midterm elections,” said Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.

The Budget chief also called on concerned agencies to ensure the timely release of higher compensation for teachers and poll workers in next week’s midterm elections.

“I urge Comelec (Commission on Elections) to ensure that our teachers and poll workers will get their compensation as quickly as possible,” said Pangandaman.

The budgetary requirement for the poll workers' compensation as authorized under the Fiscal Year 2025 General Appropriations Act amounted to P7.480 billion.

The Comelec has estimated the total number of poll workers for the national and local elections at 758,549.

Under the Election Service Reform Act and COMELEC Resolution No. 10194, persons rendering election service shall be entitled to honoraria, travel allowance, communication allowance, meal allowance, and service credit. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
