PNP: No serious threat monitored ahead of Eleksyon 2025

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has yet to monitor any serious threat as the May 12 national and local elections draw near.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said the entire election period so far has been "generally peaceful," adding that incidents monitored did not result in disruptions.

"Wala naman tayong namo-monitor na seryosong banta... pero hindi tayo nagkukumpiyansa at patuloy ang ating intelligence gathering," Fajardo said.

(We have yet to monitor any serious threats... but we are not being lax in our duties and we continue with our intelligence gathering.)

The PNP official said the number of validated election-related incidents (ERIs) still stands at 40.

Of the 40 validated ERIs, 26 were "violent" and 14 were "non-violent."

Most of the validated violent election-related incidents were reported in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) with eight, followed by Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) with seven.

Three validated violent election-related incidents were monitored in Zamboanga Peninsula and two in Cagayan Valley.

Moreover, one validated violent election-related incident was reported each in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Davao Region, and Soccsksargen.

Fajardo said the PNP was still validating 17 suspected ERIs, namely in Ilocos Region, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and BARMM.

"Patuloy tayong nagbabantay. Naka-full alert na ang Pambansang Pulisya kasama ang iba pang ahensya ng gobyerno," she said.

The arrested election gun ban violators include the following:

  • 19 PNP personnel
  • 18 Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel
  • seven personnel from other law enforcement agencies
  • 9 elected government officials
  • 2 appointed government officials
  • 6 CAFGU Active Auxiliary
  • 13 foreign nationals
  • 3 children in conflict with the law
  • 3 suspected communist rebels
  • 48 security guards

A total of 3,011 firearms have been seized—1,120 revolvers, 841 pistols, 114 gun replicas, 77 explosives, 55 Class A guns, 24 rifles, 22 shotguns, five Class B guns, among others.

Fajardo said the PNP was also cracking down on vote-buying as Election Day approaches.

"Kapag may natanggap tayong sumbong about vote-buying, agad natin itong pinupuntahan, dinodokumento at nire-report natin sa election officer," she said.
