Sara Duterte on poll results: I acknowledge, but it wasn’t what I hoped for

Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday evening acknowledged the results of the 2025 national and local elections, despite admitting that it was not something that she had expected.

Duterte issued the statement as only five out of the 12 senatorial candidates she personally endorsed had a chance of winning, based on the partial and unofficial tally of the Commission on Elections.

They are reelectionist senators Bong Go, Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, and Imee Marcos; Sagip party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta; and Las Piñas Representative Camille Villar.

“While the outcome was not what we had hoped for, our commitment to the people remains unwavering. We will continue to hold the government accountable, advocate for the issues that matter, and work tirelessly to serve as a strong and constructive opposition,” the vice president said in a statement.

She also thanked all the supporters “who stood with us throughout this journey.”

The Duterte family has faced several challenges in the past few months, starting with Sara’s impeachment by the House of Representatives, followed by the arrest and eventual transfer of her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, to the International Criminal Court to face charges of crimes against humanity.

Just recently, her eldest brother, Davao City Representative Paolo "Pulong" Duterte, was slapped with a complaint for physical injuries and grave threats for allegedly assaulting a man in a Davao City bar.

''This is not the end—it’s a renewed beginning. We invite all citizens—regardless of background or past affiliation—to join us in building a powerful and principled opposition,'' the vice president said.

''Together, we can shape a future that is fair, inclusive, and just. Stand with us.'' — VBL, GMA Integrated News
