Comelec eyes proclamation of winning senators by weekend

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is eyeing to proclaim the winning 12 senators for Eleksyon 2025 by Saturday, May 17, 2025.

This is the earliest date the poll body is targeting for the proclamation, according to Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia.

“Baka itong Sabado o Linggo, sana makapag-proklama na tayo ng senador,” Garcia told reporters.

(We can proclaim winning senators by Saturday or Sunday.)

“Mabilis naman eh. Tingnan niyo 98.9% na nga ang nandyan, kapiraso na lang ang kulang. Kahit siguro wala yung kulang basta maipadala sa amin sa national board perhaps baka wala ng effect ang natitirang results. Pero syempre kailangan ang Comelec 100% ang canvass. Walang kahit isa man na COC ang maiiiwan pag nag-canvass ang Comelec,” Garcia added.

(The transmission was fast. Look, we are now at 98.9%. Maybe the remaining data will not affect the results but of course, the Comelec will ensure we will canvass all COCs.)

Asked if May 17 is the earliest date the Comelec is targeting, Garcia said:  “Yes. Sana. Kung papasok lahat ngayon.”

(Yes, we’re hoping we could proclaim by Saturday if all ER results will be transmitted today.)

As of Tuesday, data reflected from the Comelec transparency servers showed the transmitted local ERs stood at 98.99%. This translates to 92,453 out of the total 93,387 expected ERs.

The Comelec, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), earlier reconvened to start the canvassing of votes for senators and party-list groups for Eleksyon 2025. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
