Marcos to newly-elected leaders: I extend my hand regardless of party, coalition
A day after Election Day, President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. called on the newly-elected leaders to work with him for the common good regardless of their political parties or coalition.
''Governance is a shared responsibility, a mission that requires unity and burden sharing for the common good. To the newly elected, regardless of party or coalition, I extend my hand. Let us move forward together—with open minds and a common purpose,'' Marcos said in a message Tuesday.
''Sa gobyernong tapat, kasama ang lahat. May God bless our leaders, our people and our beloved Philippines,'' he added.
Inflation, jobs, corruption, and the everyday burdens of each Filipino are the issues, which elected leaders must face, according to the President.
He even quoted his father, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., who said, ''If we are to prevail, we must prevail as Filipinos—for it is the only way to endure. If we are to attain our goals, we must march forward, not to the past but to the future. And we must do this as one family, a nation united.”
Marcos expressed gratitude to all Filipinos who have exercised their right to vote in the 2025 midterm elections, saying that the country's democracy has renewed itself, peacefully, orderly, and with dignity.
''It is both a celebration of continuity and a call to act on the real challenges our people face,'' the President said.
He specifically thanked those who supported the Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas candidates, for their trust for the administration's senatorial slate.
''We may not have won every seat, but our work and mission continue,'' Marcos said.
''To those who did not make it, your courage to stand for public service is deeply respected. Public service goes beyond elections. The work of nation-building needs all who are ready to serve,'' he added.
In a separate statement, Alyansa campaign manager Toby Tiangco said they consider the victory of most of their candidates as a ''vote of confidence in the Bagong Pilipinas vision of progress,'' where all Filipinos can live better lives with real economic opportunities for all.
''Their vote affirms our shared commitment to continue the country’s economic gains and preserve the momentum of growth,'' Tiangco said.
''We view this as a clear signal to move forward with greater urgency and focus, guided by the aspirations of our people and committed to addressing the issues that concern them the most,'' he added.
Tiangco emphasized that Alyansa's goal during the campaign was to rally support for the election of senators who could bring their competence and experience to the Senate as well as to help the administration in its efforts to uplift the welfare of Filipinos.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec), sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), on Tuesday started tallying the votes for senatorial candidates and party-list groups for Eleksyon 2025.
The NBOC reconvened at around 10:30 a.m. at the Manila Hotel as they started opening the certificate of canvass (COC) from international posts and local absentee voting (LAV).
The poll body is eyeing to proclaim the winning 12 senators for the midterm polls by Saturday, May 17. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
