PH Red Cross: Over 7,000 patients sought medical aid on Election Day

A total of 7,086 people sought medical assistance as they cast their votes in the May 2025 midterm elections on Monday, according to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Tuesday.

In an update, PRC said that of the total number of patients, six were transported to hospital, 14 were major cases, 117 were minor cases, while 6,949 had their vital signs checked.

Those who were hospitalized suffered from body weakness, chest pain, dizziness, headache, laceration, and shortness of breath.

Among those considered as major cases experienced seizure, fainting, asthma attack, loss of consciousness, fever, and vomiting.

Meanwhile, minor cases experienced abdominal pain, abrasion, chest pain, dizziness, difficulty of breathing, hypertension, fainting, heat exhaustion, laceration, nosebleed, shortness of breath, swelling, and vomiting.

To provide medical assistance to voters, PRC deployed 2,260 volunteers, 291 first aid stations, 178 ambulances, 85 welfare desks, and 15 service vehicles nationwide.

PRC stations were established in schools, which served as polling centers, among other areas.

On Election Day, a 65-year-old man died after losing consciousness inside a polling precinct in Oas, Albay.

“Positive po 'yun na-heart attack 'yung 65-year-old kaninang 6:05 a.m. (It is confirmed that the 65-year-old had a heart attack at 6:05 a.m.)," PRO5 spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Maria Luisa Calubaquib said on Monday.

Based on a police report, Nestor Rensales finished casting his vote in a polling precinct in Barangay Ilaor Sur when he felt dizzy. He told his wife about his condition.

Then, he became unconscious.

The senior citizen was given first aid and brought to Josefina Belmonte Duran Albay Provincial Hospital in Ligao City but he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
