JBC conducts first interviews for new SC associate justice

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) conducted Wednesday the first round of interviews for the position of Supreme Court (SC) associate justice.

According to the Supreme Court, the interviews are being conducted in view of the compulsory retirement of Associate Justice Mario Lopez on June 4, 2025.

Interviewed were Court of Appeals justices Nina Antonio-Valenzuela and Ramon Bato Jr., as well as University of the Philippines College of Law Dean Darlene Marie Berberabe.

Meanwhile, among the panel of interviewers was Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.

The SC said that under Article VIII, Section 8(1) of the 1987 Constitution, the Secretary of Justice serves as an ex officio member of the JBC.

Additional interviews will be conducted on May 15, 16, and 21. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
