Marcos on Sara Duterte impeachment: Pabayaan natin ang proseso
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said Monday that the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte is already in the hands of the Senate, adding the process should be allowed to take its course on the matter.
In a podcast, Marcos was asked if he could categorically say that he is against the impeachment.
'''Yung impeachment, nasa Senado na 'yan. Pabayaan natin sila, may proseso 'yan, pabayaan natin ang proseso eh ako basta't ang nasa isip ko, tapos na ang eleksyon, balik sa trabaho,'' Marcos told broadcaster Anthony Taberna,
Earlier, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said there had been no news about the President pursuing the impeachment trial of the Vice President.
Marcos and Duterte were running mates in Eleksyon 2022 but their relationship had gone sour.
Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives on February 5, with over 200 congressmen endorsing the complaint against her. She was accused of betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and other high crimes.
Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero earlier released an initial timetable for the procedures related to the impeachment trial of Duterte, setting the tentative start of the trial on July 30.
The Vice President, for her part, said she is looking forward to her impeachment trial in the upcoming 20th Congress because she “wants a bloodbath,'' noting that her legal team is on "full throttle" in their preparations. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
