Kabataan hopes Gabriela will get House seat amid suspension of 2 party-lists’ proclamation

Reelected Kabataan Partylist is hoping that Gabriela Women’s Party, their fellow member of the Makabayan Bloc in the House of Representatives, will get a seat in the 20th Congress following the suspension of proclamation of two partylist groups.

Congresswoman-elect Renee Co, the first nominee of Kabataan, made the remark as she welcomed the halting of Duterte Youth partylist’s proclamation.

“Deserve,” Co said when asked to react to the recent development on Duterte Youth party-list.

“‘Yung suspension ng Duterte Youth is the first step doon sa matagal nang clamor ng youth sector para sa kanilang disqualification,” she said.

“So far, it’s been ACT Teachers and Kabataan, but because of these developments, we’re looking forward to Gabriela Women’s Party sharing the space in the 20th Congress with us. Pero patuloy ang laban sa loob at labas ng Kongreso,” she added.

Gabriela ranked 55th in the party-list race in Eleksyon 2025 after Philreca.

It failed to secure a House slot as only 63 seats are available to party-list representation.

Should Duterte Youth and Bagong Henerasyon and Bagong Henerasyon be disqualified, there will be four seats that will be available for party-list that ranked after Philreca.

Co attributed the lower number of votes garnered by the other partylists that form part of the Makabayan Bloc, namely Bayan Muna and Gabriela, to red-tagging.

She said her group will file a bill seeking to criminalize red-tagging.

Earlier in the day, Commission on Elections Chairman George Garcia announced that Duterte Youth and Bagong Henerasyon Partylists’ proclamation will be suspended due to the pending cases filed against them before the poll body.

Duterte Youth garnered over 2 million votes, which gave them to get three seats in the House of Representatives.
