Marcos: PH won’t tolerate any disrespect to our sovereignty

SUBIC, Zambales — The Philippines will not tolerate any “act of disrespect” against the country’s sovereignty, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said Tuesday.

“We will never tolerate any act of disrespect against our sovereignty,” Marcos said in his speech during the 127th anniversary celebration of the Philippine Navy.

“Wala tayong isusuko, wala tayong pababayaan,” Marcos said.

(We won't surrender anything ... we won't neglect anything.)

Marcos said his administration would continue to safeguard the country’s maritime zones and “exercise our maritime rights in accordance with international law.”

The President also emphasized the importance of international law, noting that the Philippines honors its commitment as member of the international community.

“We reaffirm our commitment to being a responsible member of the international community engaging in all matters diplomatically and upholding the established principles under International law,” he said.

Marcos also ensured that his administration would remain resolute in ensuring a future-ready Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Meanwhile, he also lauded the Navy’s role in ensuring the conduct of an orderly Eleksyon 2025, with over 1,800 sailors deployed.

“They played a key role in ensuring its safe and orderly conduct, particularly in vulnerable areas of the country and in addition, also securing our democracy,” Marcos said.

Naval assets

During the event, the Navy christened and commissioned two new naval assets, BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG06) and BRP Albert Majini (PG909).

The BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG06), a guided-missile frigate named after the last Filipino general to surrender during the Philippine-American War, arrived from South Korea last April 4, 2025.

The asset was equipped for anti-ship, anti-submarine, anti-aircraft and electronic warfare systems.

Meanwhile, the BRP Albert Majini (PG909), the eighth Acero-class Fast Attack Interdiction Craft (FAIC-M), is the first locally assembled missile-capable patrol vessel in the country.

Named after Medal of Valor awardee Ensign Albert Majini, the vessel, which is for rapid interdiction and coastal operations, honors his gallantry during anti-paracy operations in Basilan in 1980.

The commissioning process strengthened the Navy’s capacity to address current and emerging maritime threats. —AOL/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
