PNP: Validated election-related incidents reached 100
The number of validated-election related incidents since the start of the election period on January 12 for this year's midterm elections has reached 100, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday.
At a press conference, PNP public information office chief Police Colonel Randulf Tuaño said 16 more suspected election-related incidents are still undergoing validation.
The PNP has yet to provide an update on the total number of fatalities and injured people. However, the PNP said on May 15 that there were 20 validated election-related killings.
On Monday, PNP chief Police General Rommel Marbil directed his personnel to fast-track the investigations into all validated election-related incidents and ensure that justice is swiftly served.
“This is a direct order from the President: We must not allow violence and intimidation to tarnish the democratic process. The PNP will act with speed, precision, and transparency to resolve all pending cases,” he said.
Marbil ordered all regional and provincial directors to submit progress reports on these cases and ensure that all perpetrators are held accountable in accordance with the law.
“We owe it to the public to pursue these cases with the urgency they deserve. The peaceful conduct of the 2025 elections must be complemented by a justice system that works swiftly and effectively,” he said.
Despite reports of violence and delays in the voting process in some areas, the PNP said the May 2025 midterm elections have been generally peaceful.
The PNP will review security strategies from the recent midterm elections in preparation for the parliamentary polls in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao in October as well as for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in December. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
