AFP: Senior officer relieved of post in wake of misconduct complaints

A senior officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines has been relieved of his post after two junior officers filed complaints against him for alleged misconduct.

In a statement, the internal investigation of the complaints established prima facie evidence that warranted further legal action.

While the AFP didn't say the senior officer's service command, the Philippine Air Force, in a separate statement, said that it had "a case of the same nature undergoing investigation in the General Headquarters, AFP."

"A pre-trial investigation was subsequently conducted and has since been completed. The case is now pending the approval of the convening authority for referral to a general court martial and its eventual convening," the AFP said.

"The AFP assures the complainants that their rights are fully protected and that they are being safeguarded from any form of intimidation or undue influence throughout the process," it added.

The AFP said it remained "firmly committed to due process, transparency, and accountability under the military justice system."

"These principles serve as the foundation of our pursuit of truth and justice, while ensuring fairness to all parties concerned," the AFP said. –Vince Angelo Ferreras/NB, GMA Integrated News
