AFP: Senior officer accused of misconduct restricted, confined to quarters

The high-ranking military officer who is accused of misconduct by two junior officers is now restricted and confined to his quarters, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Wednesday.

“He was restricted and confined sa quarters niya (in his quarters),” AFP Public Affairs Office chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad told reporters.

On Tuesday, the AFP said an internal investigation in light of the complaints established sufficient evidence warranting further legal action against the senior officer, who has been relieved from his post.

Trinidad said the case is now pending the approval of AFP chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. for the referral to a General Court Martial and its eventual convening.

“It was just completed and we hope to be reviewed first,” Trinidad said.

“Then siyempre, dadaan ‘yan sa mga legal, sa mga staff, legal opinion, and staff opinions niya regarding that matter and then let's just wait for that,” he added.

(Then of course, that will go through the legal opinions and staff opinions regarding that matter and then let's just wait for that," he added

Trinidad said the AFP refused to release the names and ranks of those involved for their privacy and security.

“We're trying to protect their privacy and yung for security reasons. We're providing both sides para hindi magkaroon ng takutan o kung ano man,” he said.
