Suarez: 4 Liberal Party members have joined House ‘supermajority’
Four members of the Liberal Party have joined the “supermajority coalition” of the House of Representatives supporting Speaker Martin Romualdez in the 20th Congress, according to Deputy Speaker David "Jay-jay" Suarez.
“As of today, 285 House members have expressed support for Speaker [Martin] Romualdez, with 278 lawmakers having already signed formal declarations—including four out of six members of the LP who are now part of the larger movement for legislative continuity and national stability,” Suarez said in a statement.
He added that Romualdez earned the “trust” of the current and incoming members of the lower chamber through “principled, results-oriented leadership.”
“The Speaker is also heeding the President’s call for results-oriented leadership, as demonstrated by the House of Representatives’ swift approval of the majority of priority measures aligned with the Chief Executive’s legislative agenda,” he said.
Suarez noted that the “supermajority bloc” also includes political parties such as Lakas-CMD, Nacionalista Party, National Unity Party, Nationalist People’s Coalition, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, and the Party-list Coalition Foundation Inc.
“The unity we now see among House members reflects a collective commitment to stability, progress, and responsible governance under his stewardship,” he said.
Suarez earlier said Romualdez is likely to continue his leadership in the House of Representatives in the 20th Congress with the number of his supporters. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
