CA panel endorses Vince Dizon as DOTr chief

CA panel endorses Vince Dizon as DOTr chief

The transportation panel of the Commission on Appointments (CA) on Tuesday endorsed the confirmation of the ad interim appointment of Vince Dizon as secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

This came after Committee on Transportation chairperson Lani Mercado-Revilla approved the motion of CA Majority Floor Leader Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. to recommend to the plenary Dizon’s appointment.

The plenary action on the recommendation of the committee supposedly on Tuesday noon has, however, been canceled until further notice.

Dizon also announced upon the interpellation of Senator Joel Villanueva during the hearing that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. did not accept his courtesy resignation as DOTr chief in May.

“I did get a call from the Executive Secretary that the President did not accept my courtesy resignation,” he said.

As the deliberation on Dizon’s appointment lasted nearly four hours, the hearing of other CA panels to discuss the confirmation of the ad interim appointments of Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda and Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Jay Ruiz were cut short.

During the hearing of the CA committee on information and communications technology, Villafuerte moved to suspend the consideration of the ad interim appointment of Aguda as DICT chief due to “lack of material time.”

This was approved by panel chairperson Rep. Roy Loyola.

Aguda said that his courtesy resignation was also not accepted by Marcos.

"I received a call from the Executive Secretary, telling me that my resignation was declined by the President," Aguda said.

Meanwhile, Villafurte also made the same motion during the deliberation of the Committee on Executive Secretary, Presidential Communications Offices of the Office of the President, and the Philippine Space Agency on Ruiz’ appointment, which was likewise approved by Loyola.

Asked if his courtesy resignation was accepted by the President, Ruiz said, “When I asked Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, what he told me is just focus on your job and continue with it because we have not withdrawn your appointment.” —AOL, GMA Integrated News
