VP Sara: Torre appointment as PNP chief too sketchy
Vice President Sara Duterte has expressed apprehension regarding the appointment of Police Major General Nicolas Torre III as the new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In an interview in The Hague, Netherlands on June 3, Tuesday, Duterte said that the decision to tap Torre—the former CIDG chief who led the arrest of her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, resulting in his eventual transport to the International Criminal Court—-as the next PNP chief was “too sketchy.”
“Mayroong recent findings ang Senate of violations of law of this police officer. So, bakit mo naman gagawing chief of police? So, masyadong sketchy ‘yung decision,” the Vice President said.
(The Senate has recent findings of this police officer’s alleged violations of law. So, why would you make him chief of police? So, the decision is too sketchy.)
GMA Integrated News is trying to get Torre's comment and will publish it as soon as it is available.
Torre officially assumed the post during a change of command ceremony in Camp Crame, Quezon City on June 2, Monday.
He replaced Police General Rommel Marbil, whose extended term is set to expire on June 7.
As Police Regional Office 11 chief, Torre led the capture of Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder Apollo Quiboloy on September 8, 2024 in Davao City over charges of human trafficking and sexual exploitation of minors.
Quiboloy is an ally of the Duterte family. –NB, GMA Integrated News
