DOH logs over 110K dengue cases from Jan. to May 2025

The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded over 110,000 cases of dengue across the country from January to May 10, 2025, according to a "24 Oras" report by Darlene Cay.

The most recent data from DOH showed that more than 19,000 cases were logged in Metro Manila from January to May 17, 2025.  This shows a 224% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Of the nationwide cases, the Health department said it logged 437 deaths, mostly children aged five to nine.

“Mas mababa po ang immunity ng mga bata compared sa mga adult kaya mas tinatamaan po sila ng dengue,” said DOH Public Health Services Cluster Assistant Secretary Farwa Hombre.

(The immunity of children is lower compared to adults, so they are more vulnerable to dengue.)

The Department of Health earlier led a commemoration event to launch the Dengue Awareness month at the Esteban Abada Elementary School, leading efforts to clean and secure the area from dengue risks ahead of the school opening on June 16.

“[May] awareness naman kami sa school sa kalinisan, nagfafogging, kumpleto kami. Syempre nagkakataon lang talaga yun,” said parent Mariflor Maanay.

([We have] awareness in the school on cleanliness, fogging, we are complete. Of course, it just happens by chance.)

The DOH said it also strengthened its campaign “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito,” which urged schools to use “Magtaob, taktak, tuyo, at takip” possible areas for larvae.

It also advised individuals to consult a doctor in case of any symptoms.

“Pwede pong mauwi sa kamatayan if hindi po natin maagapan, kaya po pinupush namin na prevention is better than cure,” added Hombre.
