ICC prosecution submits 6th batch of evidence vs. Duterte
The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecution has submitted the sixth batch of evidence against detained former president Rodrigo Duterte for his alleged crimes against humanity during his administration’s war on drugs.
In a document dated June 3, ICC Deputy Prosecutor Mame Mandiaye Niang said the prosecution disclosed “90 items” of evidence to the defense under three categories.
A total of 32 items were listed in the “crimes against humanity–murder” category, which refers to “barangay clearance operations” during Duterte’s administration.
Consisting of 35 items, another category is labeled under barangay clearance operations during his presidency.
Another 23 items were placed in the “Contextual Elements – background information,” which indicated “material for the preparation of the Defence.”
The document noted that the annexes to the filing are classified as “confidential” as they refer to confidential evidence disclosed between the involved parties.
This means it cannot be disclosed to the public.
Duterte was arrested and brought to The Hague in March. He is currently detained in the Scheveningen Prison in The Hague.
The alleged killings were reportedly done from Nov. 1, 2011 to March 16, 2019 during his administration’s war on drugs.
