Water pipeline in Tondo bursts; Maynilad customers to have water service interruption

A 2.2-meter diameter water pipeline of Maynilad Water Services burst in Tondo, Manila on Friday. Some Maynilad customers will have water service interruption on Saturday as urgent repair works will be done, the company said.

Maynilad said the said water pipeline located on Nicolas Zamora Street was accidentally hit by a third-party contractor building the New Pritil Market.

"Naka-receive kami ng report mula sa city engineer kahapon na may malakas na unusual na strong flow sa construction ng New Pritil Public Market," Maynilad water supply operations officer Engr. Ian Abiera said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday.

(We received a report from the city engineer yesterday that there was a strong unusual flow [of water] at the construction [site] of New Pritil Public Market.)

"Mukhang natamaan ng 3rd party contractor na nagko-construct ng New Pritil Market 'yung 2.2-meter diameter primary trunkline," he added.

(It seems the third party contractor constructing the New Pritil Market hit the 2.2-meter diameter primary trunkline.)

The company said some of its customers in Manila, Pasay City, Parañaque City, Las Piñas City in Metro Manila; and Bacoor City, Cavite City, Imus City, Kawit, Rosario in Noveleta, Cavite will have their water service disrupted on Saturday afternoon until early Sunday.

The water service interruption will start at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025 and will end at 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2025.

"Nasa 352,000 customers ang inaasahang maaapektuhan," Abiera said.

(Around 352,000 customers may be affected.)

Affected customers were advised to store enough water for their needs.

Maynilad said it will deploy mobile water tankers to deliver clean water if needed.

The company said once water supply resumes, the water may be discolored. Customers should just let the water flow until it becomes clear.

The initial release of water may also be used for flushing toilets and for other non-drinking purposes, Maynilad said.

The company said its field teams are working continuously to finish the repairs in the soonest possible time.

It then asked customers for understanding due to the inconvenience they may have as a result of the incident.

The list of barangays to be affected by the water service interruption is posted in Maynilad's social media accounts.
