Marcos: Performance review of Cabinet, heads of gov't agencies to be done periodically

The assessment on the performance of Cabinet officials as well as heads of government agencies and offices will be done on a periodic basis, President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said Tuesday.

In an ambush interview, Marcos was asked for updates on the performance assessment of his Cabinet officials as well as the officials of other government agencies. He clarified that what he is doing is not a Cabinet revamp, adding that he basically placed government officials under probation.

''You know, I have to explain that it's not a Cabinet revamp. What we really did was we are still in the process of examining. Now, nasa baba na tayo. What happened really here was that I put everyone on notice that you are all on, basically all on probation,'' Marcos said.

''And, okay, this time, it looks like yung iba maganda naman ang performance. Now, nasa Usec na tayo, nasa mga agencies na tayo (we are at the undersecretary level, at the government agencies level). But we are, what essentially, what you call, what you refer to as a Cabinet revamp, it's not a one-shot, one-time, big-time thing. It is an ongoing thing. This is something, it is essentially putting all government agencies, departments on notice that we have to do better. And we will be looking very, very closely and we will make that review on a periodic basis, maybe quarterly basis,'' he explained.

Marcos said the public would ''see more changes in the future.''

To recall, the President directed Cabinet secretaries and heads of agencies to submit their courtesy resignations, with the aim to “recalibrate” his administration following the midterm polls.

Marcos said the public should expect a rigorous review on the officials' performances

Last week, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin disclosed that Marcos has retained in their positions some Cabinet secretaries and other heads of government agencies.

Bersamin had said the performance evaluation of the other government officials continues, including the GOCC heads. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
