Palace on 'getting' Roque: Wait and see
''Wait and see.''
This was the response of Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro after former presidential spokesman Harry Roque made a remark that the government should come and get him.
''Ayon naman po sa DOJ (Department of Justice) ay naghihintay lamang po ng formal notice na patungkol po dito sa kaniyang asylum. Kung ang sinasabi po niya, 'Come and get me,' ayon naman po sa ating pamahalaan, wait and see,'' Castro said at a briefing Friday.
(The Department of Justice is just waiting for the formal notice as regards the asylum. If he's saying, 'Come and get me,' the government responds with, 'wait and see.')
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla on Wednesday said Roque, who is facing qualified human trafficking charges in the Philippines, has been denied political asylum in The Hague.
According to Remulla, the DOJ will wait for the results of Roque’s political asylum in Germany, adding the department might no longer request his extradition if his passport is cancelled.
But Roque called out Remulla and described his statement as "fake news.'' He said his Germany trip was planned, and he is now back in The Hague.
Castro, meanwhile, has said that the DOJ has the intelligence assets monitoring Roque's political asylum request. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
