PNP invites VP Sara to visit after criticisms on police visibility, modernization

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday invited Vice President Sara Duterte to visit its headquarters after she criticized the organization over concerns in police visibility and modernization.

In a press briefing, PNP chief Police General Nicolas Torre III pointed out the organization is already using different technologies such as drones, CCTVs, and body cameras, among others to improve its efforts in monitoring security.

“Ako ay nagpapasalamat din sa pagpuna ng ating Bise Presidente sa ating mga operasyon. We always welcome those ideas,” Torre said.

(I am also grateful for the criticism from our Vice President on our operations. We always welcome those ideas.)

“Yung mga suggestions about CCTV, body cameras, drones ay atin nang ginagawa. Rest assured we are making leaps and bounds in integrating this technology in our operations,” he added.

Torre said Duterte is welcome to visit PNP headquarters so he can personally show her what the police have been doing.

Duterte earlier called out the PNP’s alleged lack of modernization in police operations.

“May drone, robot, CCTV, at napakarami pang iba na puwede mong gamitin, puwede mong i-harness from the universe para gumaling, gumanda, at umayos ang trabaho ng pulis,” Duterte said.

(There are drones, robots, CCTV, and so many others that you can use, you can harness from the universe to improve and streamline the work of the police.)

“Bakit nandoon ka pa rin sa ilalagay ko ang pulis sa kanto?” she added.
