Heavy rains force class suspensions in Metro Manila, provinces
Classes were suspended and commuters were stranded in multiple areas due to the heavy rainfall Thursday in Metro Manila and some provinces.
State weather bureau PAGASA said heavier rains were expected in different parts of Luzon up to Sunday due to the effects of a low pressure area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.
In its 11 a.m. weather advisory on Thursday, PAGASA said the LPA would cause 100 to 200 mm of rainfall in Cagayan from Wednesday to Friday noon.
Meanwhile, rainfall of 50 to 100 mm is forecast in Batanes, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, and Ilocos Norte during the same period.
Meanwhile, the Habagat will cause rainfall of 100 to 200 mm in Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro from Wednesday to Friday noon.
Metro Manila, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, and Batangas are expected to have rainfall of 50 to 100 mm during the same period.
"Forecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas. Moreover, impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall," PAGASA said.
"The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property," it added.
