Archbishop Gilbert Garcera elected as new CBCP head

Lipa, Batangas Archbishop Gilbert Garcera has been elected as the next president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

According to CBCP News, Garcera was chosen during the bishops’ 130th plenary assembly in Anda, Bohol.

The Lipa archbishop will be leading the CBCP for two years and may be re-elected for a second and final term.

Garcera will succeed Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David, who will finish his term as CBCP president in November.

Meanwhile, Zamboanga Archbishop Julius Tonel of Zamboanga was elected as CBCP’s next vice president, replacing Pasig Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara.
