38 Luzon areas flooded due to Bising, Habagat —OCD

38 Luzon areas flooded due to Bising, Habagat —OCD

The Office of Civil Defense on Monday said 38 areas in Luzon were flooded due to the rains brought by Typhoon Bising and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat.

OCD officer-in-charge Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said that no casualties or missing persons have been reported so far.

“No major incident. No major floodings in a way as compared to 'yung mga previous bagyo natin, yung 'KLMNOP,” Alejandro told Dobol B TV in an interview.

Alejandro was referring to the consecutive tropical cyclones that hit the country in 2024—Kristine, Leon, Marce, Nila, Ofel, and Pepito.

“So very minor pa lang ang epekto nito. Parang practice lang,” he added.

The OCD is also monitoring the situation in Pangasinan as the Agno River may swell and cause flooding in nearby areas.

According to Alejandro, assistance was sought to cover 235 families in Narvacan, Ilocus Sur.

Affected population

A total of 82,548 persons or 27,401 families were affected by the bad weather in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), according to a report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Of the total affected population, nine people or two families were staying in evacuation centers while 3,002 individuals or 1,017 families were taking shelter in other places.

In Ilocos Region, over 600 families were affected by the floods brought by “Bising.” However, the OCD Region 1 said that only 12 families had to undergo preemptive evacuation.

“Bale nagkaroon tayo ng total na 617 families naapektuhan, pero wala ito sa evacuation centers. Ang nagkaroon lang tayo ng preemptive evacuation para sa 12 families…pero sa ngayon po, nakabalik na sa kani-kanilang bahay,” said OCD-Region 1 director Laurence Mina in Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

Two landslides and two falling debris incidents were reported in Central Luzon and CAR, according to the NDRRMC.

A total of 14 houses were damaged—12 partially and two totally. One road was still impassable to motorists.

The power supply in five areas remained interrupted.

Classes in 219 areas and work schedules in 36 areas were suspended in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, CAR, and Metro Manila.

Assistance worth P352,891 has been provided to affected people in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and CAR.
