Ombudsman must be brave, fair —Palace

Malacañang on Tuesday said the next Ombudsman should be brave and fair in his job.

While no shortlist was given yet to President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr., Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro highlighted the traits that must be possessed by public servants, including the Ombudsman.

''Sa kasalukuyan ay wala pa pong natatanggap na shortlist ang Pangulo at katulad ng ating sinabi dapat po isang matino, matapang, fair... 'Yun po ang ilan lamang sa mga pangunahin na dapat maging isang katangian ng public servant, hindi lang ng Ombudsman, lahat ng public servant,'' Castro said in a briefing.

(The President has not received any shortlist yet and just like what I said, a public servant, not just the Ombudsman, should be good, brave, and fair.)

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin ''Boying'' Remulla was among those who applied for the post.

The Office of the Ombudsman handles the complaints filed against high-ranking government officials and those occupying supervisory positions, complaints involving grave offenses as well as complaints involving large sums of money and/or properties.

The deadline for the submission of the online applications was last Friday, July 4. —KG, GMA Integrated News
