Sandiganbayan eyes creation of public information division
The Sandiganbayan is planning to create a public information division to give the public a better understanding of the anti-graft court decisions.
“Well, it is of course known to everybody that the cases here involve public officials, and most of these cases are complex. We feel that the creation of a Public Information Division is important,” Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Geraldine Faith Econg told reporters.
“We need a spokesperson to explain and to reach out to the public in order for the public to understand why the decisions of the court are in that way,” she added.
Econg said that given the legal technicalities, there is a tendency to misinterpret the anti-graft court’s decisions, especially on the part of those who lost the case.
“Sometimes, when people hear that cases are decided, there is, of course, a victor and there are those who lose the case. And those who lose the case will misunderstand our decision,” she said.
“It is our hope that through a public information division, we can reach out to the masses in a language that they can understand better,” she also said.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
